1991 movie \u201cRobin Hood, Prince of Thieves\u201d.<\/h3>\n<h3>They fell in love with the film, and especially the smoochy Bryan Adams theme song \u201cEverything I do\u201d.<\/h3>\n<h3>Later that evening while out at a restaurant, &#8220;Everything I do&#8221; came on the radio just as the boyfriend proposed.<\/h3>\n<h3>It instantly became their song.<\/h3>\n<p>Come the day of the wedding, the groom had a private word with the church organist.<\/p>\n<p>He asked him if he would play the Robin Hood theme song instead of the traditional march.<\/p>\n<p>A stickler for tradition, the organist asked if that\u2019s what he really wanted, and the groom assured him that it was.<\/p>\n<p>As the couple made their way down the aisle the organist began playing the Robin Hood theme song.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the organist had never seen the movie.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he started playing the only Robin Hood song he knew from the 1960s television series <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BbyYr6L5xQM&amp;ab_channel=tunapup1\">\u201cRobin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen\u201d<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As much as I would love this story to be true, apparently, it\u2019s just an urban legend.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s not to say that things can&#8217;t go wrong on occasion on the big day.<\/p>\n<p>The following are just a few of the mini-disasters that I\u2019ve seen unfold when I performed as a <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"http:\/\/shaneblack.ie\/weddings\/\">wedding entertainer<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>But don&#8217;t worry \u2013 I\u2019ve also outlined how you can make sure that they don&#8217;t happen to <strong>you!<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Band on the run.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/vQqeT3AYg8S5O\" width=\"480\" height=\"330\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I arrived in good time to a wedding reception and was greeted by a very stressed out bride.<\/p>\n<p>When I eventually manged to calm her down, she told me that the wedding band never showed up.<\/p>\n<p>It turned out that due to crossed wires, they thought they&#8217;d been booked for the same date <strong>the following year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a simple human error, but one which could have been easily avoided.<\/p>\n<p>Simply make sure that you&#8217;re in regular contact with all your suppliers coming up to the wedding date.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t be embarrassed to make sure they check their diaries one more time \u2013 just in case!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>The chocolate-coloured wedding dress.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/l44Q7lmy0QVQVbIm4\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I arrived at a winter wedding and was delighted to see that there was a chocolate fountain in place for the guests.<\/p>\n<p>I have to admit that I\u2019m seriously partial to chocolate!<\/p>\n<p>The day in question was particularly windy \u2013 almost stormy, in fact.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the chocolate fountain had been set up close to a fire exit in the lobby.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly afterwards, the door was opened just as the bride walked by and a gust of wind blew chocolate sauce all over her dress.<\/p>\n<p>Trust me when I say that liquid chocolate <strong>cannot<\/strong> be easily removed from a white silk dress.<\/p>\n<p>So if you\u2019re going to have a fountain in place, make sure that the core wedding party give it a very wide berth!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>The \u2018very happy\u2019 groom.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/jJqWEAYkWrxWE\" width=\"480\" height=\"267\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I was booked to perform as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/shaneblack.ie\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">wedding entertainment<\/span><\/a>, at the \u2018afters\u2019 of a wedding.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When I turned up, I looked to introduce myself to the bride, but she was nowhere to be seen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It took me quite a while to track her down as she, in turn, was on the lookout for her brand-new hubby.<\/p>\n<p>I told her I\u2019d give her a hand to find him \u2013 after all, how hard can it be to find a groom at a wedding?<\/p>\n<p>We eventually tracked him down in a quiet part of the grounds.<\/p>\n<p>He was with about ten of his mates and \u2013 wait for it \u2013 they were doing shots!<\/p>\n<p>To say he was hammered is probably being a bit unfair to hammers!<\/p>\n<p>The poor bride was devastated and cried so much that her professionally applied makeup job was completely ruined.<\/p>\n<p>I know it might seem a bit counter-intuitive at Irish weddings, but a lot of couples promise each other that they won&#8217;t drink on the big day.<\/p>\n<p>Even better, they sometimes get the same promise from other prominent figures \u2013 the father of the bride, the best man, the bridesmaids etc.<\/p>\n<p>The fact of the matter is that while alcohol is a great social lubricant, people tend to start drinking early at weddings \u2013 and keep at it often for up to twelve hours.<\/p>\n<p>And for many of us, this is simply too much.<\/p>\n<p>So why not consider a dry wedding for the main participants? You\u2019ll have way better memories!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magic can be powerful &#8211; but sometimes too powerful!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8472\" src=\"http:\/\/shaneblack.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/ce8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"354\" height=\"245\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of my favourite effects is having a guest think of someone close to them who I couldn&#8217;t possibly know.<\/p>\n<p>Without them ever having to say a word, I use my powers of deduction to describe the person and reveal the exact name.<\/p>\n<p>This never failed to create amazing reactions until one time when I caused the mother of the bride to cry.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, she thought of someone who had recently passed and revealing the name brought her to tears.<\/p>\n<p>Not the reaction I had hoped for!<\/p>\n<p>Since then, I\u2019ve made a point of asking them to think of someone who\u2019s very much alive and well!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Winning entry for worst best man speech.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/kyv8Q09FHmynuc6TKa\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The best man completely misread the room and delivered a painstakingly embarrassing speech, revealing that he once dated the bride.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s way more common that you might think, and I\u2019ve seen many couples embarrassed by some of the things that the speakers have to say.<\/p>\n<p>It might not be the norm, but what about asking them to share with you what they\u2019re going to say in advance.<\/p>\n<p>You can then put them right if they\u2019re steering off-course.<\/p>\n<p>And an even better idea which I\u2019ve seen in practice is having the main protagonists prerecord their speeches.\u00a0\u00a0They can then played on a big screen after the meal.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from anything else, the speakers will appreciate not having to get up and \u2018perform\u2019 in front of a live audience.<\/p>\n<p>So there you have it \u2013 a
